EDMONTON, ALBERTA, August 26 2008 - Alberta based independent record label “R Cat Records” has agreed to a major licensing deal with Warner Bros. Pictures. The three year old label is providing the background music for TV and theatrical trailers for the new Ridley Scott motion picture “Body of Lies” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe. The movie is scheduled for release October 10 2008.

The instrumental track chosen for the trailer, “Seven Words”, was composed and produced by Adam Lastiwka for his debut album “Obsecurity” which became R Cat Records first release in December 2005 when Adam was just 17 years old.

R Cat Records Director Colin Lynch commented: “My partner and I set up the label with literally next to nothing almost three years ago after hearing a few samples of Adam’s music. Not having a clue about how to manage a record label, we did a lot of research and eventually felt confident enough to sign Adam over a coffee at Tim Horton’s. It seemed to me that Adam’s sole purpose in life was to compose soundtrack music and I promised him I would do everything I possibly could to get his music to film. I kept thinking.. it can’t be that difficult, even if it ends up being webcam footage from Whyte Avenue with an mp3 attached!

The deal with Warner really is very good news for Adam and for R Cat Records. As far as I know, Adam is quite probably the only Canadian composer to have produced a track at 17 years old that's been synched to a major motion picture trailer. I think we're also the only Canadian label to have got this kind of deal on a first release!"

Adam Lastiwka said: “I was incredibly surprised to hear that a track I had written so long ago was even being considered for such a huge production.  When Colin told me it was for a Ridley Scott film, I was in a complete state of disbelief... and I still am!  To see your dreams come into fruition is a very overwhelming thing!” 

Body of Lies is released worldwide on October 10 and is about a CIA operative (Leonardo DiCaprio) who goes to Jordan to track down a high-ranking terrorist aided by an uneasy alliance with the head of Jordan's covert operations. Russell Crowe plays the manipulating CIA boss that adds to the intensity and intrigue. Body of Lies was directed by Ridley Scott whose previous work includes Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, etc. The movie is already slated to be the year’s biggest box office hit as well as a very strong contender for the Oscars.

Since 2005, Adam Lastiwka has produced another two albums for R Cat Records: “Ubiquity” (2006), and “The Holy Crow” (2007). He is currently working on a new instrumental project in Vancouver.
